I’ve only got a month or so before I start on my 2012 goals, so I thought I’d take a look at my 2011 goals:
Writing
- Revise Beulah and submit to 50 editors and agents
- Write mortician story and submit to 4 contests
- Write 10k a week
Beulah has been revised but only submitted to about 25 folks—I still have time on this one. I benched the mortician in favor of Starcrossed. It’s 75% done and made it to only one contest. I did, however, write an entire novel for commission. I didn’t make anywhere near 10k/week, but I made at least half of that mark for the year.
Fitness
- Go to the gym 3 times a week
- Attend at least 25 Weight Watchers meetings
- Lose 15 pounds and establish better eating habits
- Drink no more than 12 cokes this year
- Give up wine for Lent
At times I made it to the gym. The Weight Watchers closed, and all of the others are far enough away it’s no longer feasible to go. I lost 10 pounds and have found five of them again. I overdid the cokes, but did make the Lentan promise. I could conceivably make a part of the weight goal, and I did find myfitnesspal.com to take the place of Weight Watchers, but it hasn’t been as effective. Mainly because you kinda have to use it every day.
Cleaning
- Clean the bathrooms every other week
- Thoroughly clean the kitchen at least 10 times in 2011
- Take 10 bags to GoodWill each month
I’m close to the third one?
Family
- Have 12 date nights with hubby
- Read almost every day with Lorelai
- Have Connor do his First in Math for 20 minutes each day
- Have children thoroughly clean their room once a week
- Get kiddos swim lessons in 2011
I’m close to #1 and 2. Not so good with #3 or #4. One kid down and one to go so far as swim lessons.
Blogs
- Maintain Healthy Writer and Petit Fours
- Write a post for SuperWriterMom each Wednesday
- Write 25 book reviews for Petit Fours
I was late on 2 healthy writer posts, forgot one entirely. I was late on a Petit Four post or two, but turned them all in. Did not even make my SuperWriterMom goal nor did I finish those 25 reviews.
*Le sigh* What do you think? Too ambitious? Not ambitious enough? How about you? How are you doing with your 2011 goals? Looking back, I should have included the conference since that’s something big that I did, but I didn’t have on the list. The commissioned novel was another big project, too. Oh, and I ran two road races, and I’m signed up for a third in January—a fitness goal I didn’t start until the new year. So, I guess 2011 wasn’t such a complete wash. Besides, I have about 6 weeks left. Let’s see what this procrastinator can do!
Sally, I think it’s good to have ambitious goals even if we don’t meet them. It gives us something to strive and stretch for. I think it’s good to mix those with some easily attainable goals so that we know we’ll have some things to cross off the list when we accomplish them.
I’ll be looking at my 2011 goals list more closely in the coming weeks and coming up with goals for 2012. As I glance over it, I see that I’m like you — I accomplished some and not others. I think that’s typical.
Trish, thanks for commenting. I look forward to seeing how you did, too. I always admire your tenacity. And I believe you’re a little busy at the moment, too.
For 2012, I know I’m going to include those things I KNOW I’ll be doing. I should have put M&M on the 2011 list.
