Last week, I marked an important milestone on my journey to becoming a healthier writer. On Wednesday, I hit the number on the scale that indicated I’d lost 15 pounds since my highest point at the beginning of February. I will admit to doing a little happy dance once I stepped off the scale. There might have been a “squee” of happiness too. I’m also half a pound away from seeing a different number in the second position of my weight. It’s been months since that second number changed from a 7 to a 6. Now, I’m on the verge of seeing it change to a 5.
Three of the pounds I’ve lost have come this month, and it is largely because of my change in diet because I’ve been up to my eyeballs in deadlines and haven’t had a lot of time to exercise. I get in some, but not the 1-2 hours I’d like to each day. Cutting way back on sweets and cutting out anything made with white flour has made a big difference. More veggies, salads and fish have also contributed to the improvement. I’m very hopeful that my cholesterol and triglyceride numbers are improving too. I have 8 more weeks before I’m due to go back for a checkup on those.
As I mentioned, I’ve had a lot of deadlines to meet this month. That stress could have really derailed my efforts to stick to a healthier lifestyle like I’ve allowed it to do in the past, but I didn’t let it. I stuck with what I’m supposed to eat with few exceptions, and I have exercised even it it was at reduced amounts. I kept reminding myself of how bad I’d feel if I torpedoed all my hard work by slacking off.
I also found non-food ways to reward myself. After hitting my weight loss milestone last week and writing a lot (21 pages on Friday alone), I took a short break and went to a movie with two of my friends. And I didn’t have any of the movie theater snacks. I ate my turkey burger with onions and mushrooms before I left and had a salad when I came home.
What is the next milestone you’d like to meet? And what is a non-food way you plan to reward yourself when you meet it?
Congratulations on the milestone, Trish! Very impressive.
Thanks. Hopefully I’ll have more milestones to report soon.
Congrats on meeting the milestone Trish!!! Really impressive particularly with deadlines. 21 pages in a day is awesome.
I just turned my latest ms in and so it is on to the next thing on the list.
Thanks, Michelle. Congrats on finishing your book.
You are my inspiration. I’m working on that “6″ becoming a “5″ too. I hate that second number!
Hey, Nicki, maybe we can do the “we made it to the 5″ dance at M&M.
I WILL be in the 150s by then, hopefully the low 150s.
Congratulations, Trish. This is great news. I’m looking forward to more milesposts – yours, mine and all of ours.
Thanks, Mary. I love reading about everyone’s milestones too. I find inspiration in them.
