Earlier this week, I asked some of the Healthy Writers about some of their favorite health- and fitness-related websites. Here’s a sampling.
Mary Curry:
World’s Healthiest Foods — This site, which Mary consults frequently in creating her Saturda vegetable posts, is rich with useful information. There are sections on cooking (recipes, seasonal cooking, cooking demos, etc.), organic foods, healing with foods, and a Hot Topics section that address several food-related questions.
Calorie Count — Very useful site if you are counting your calories (and I suggest you do to really have a solid knowledge of what you’re eating). I use this site quite often myself.
Tawny Weber:
Motivation to Move — This site has links to its coaching programs, but it also has a good bit of free content such as a collection of articles on the topics of personal success (i.e. setting yourself up for a great day) and healthy living (success without a personal trainer) as well as recipes. You also can sign up for their free daily motivation newsletter. I just signed up to check it out.
Trish Milburn:
Prevention.com — I visit this website quite often, especially when I’m looking for a new healthful recipe to cook for dinner. It has tons of wonderful information in the areas of health, fitness, weight loss, nutrition and age-defying beauty. It also offers a video section with their 60-Second Solutions. The first one that popped up today was called “Fix Neck Pain at Your Desk.” And if you need some help tracking your progress toward becoming a healthier you, there’s a section called My Healthy Trackers. Here, you can create a food journal, log your workouts and calories burned, track your mood and energy levels, monitor your blood sugar levels, etc. Prevention also offers daily e-mail newsletters. I receive this and get a lot of my ideas for posts on Healthy Writer from them.
Now, what are some of your favorite health- and fitness-related websites? What do they offer? Why do you like them? Have you found they’ve helped you on your journey?
In a lot of ways, this site is the most helpful to me.
The next two sites I go to the most for health and fitness stuff are weightwatchers.com or WebMD. I also like the health and fitness coverage that the New York Times and Washington Post offer. Another absolute favorite is the Smartbrief daily enewsletter for nutritionists – which you can sign up for for free.
Great suggestions, Michelle. I just went to sign up for that Smartbrief one.
I have to be careful on WebMD or I start thinking I have the symptoms for everything.
Sadly, Trish, I play the same mindgames with WebMD.
ChefMD is totally different and that’s also become one of my favorite sites for recipes. Chef – Dr. John LaPuma – just makes me want to cook healthy!
I’ll also add in the World’s Healthiest Foods has a newsletter you can sign up for. They send you recipes for the featured food each week – a nice reminder.
I use Sparkpeople.com, mostly to record my daily eating, but I always read their articles and go there first when I’m looking for a recipe. They even have an iphone ap
