Happy Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s Day, so I hope you all have a lovely holiday. Today I’m going to be hitting my local grocery store to buy the things I need to fix a special Valentine’s meal for the hubby. Today is the 20th anniversary of when he proposed. Picture me as a senior in college running around my dorm showing all my friends my sparkly new ring.

But today I also want to talk about my progress for the past week. I started a new tracking/exercise run Feb. 1, but I faltered a bit a couple of days in and really got serious last Monday. So how did the first true week back go?

* I lost 3.4 p0unds.

* I exercised between 1 hour and 20 minutes & 2 hours and 35 minutes each day except Saturday and Sunday when, eek, I didn’t exercise at all. Exercise included walking on treadmill, stepper block, dance aerobics, hand weights, stretch Band, and scrubbing bathrooms.

* My daily calorie count ranged from 1,354 to 1,829.

* My breakfast alternates between oatmeal with raisins or apples and an egg with 2-3 slices of turkey bacon.

It feels good to be back on track, even though I’ve stumbled a few times. I like that the number on the scale overall is going down, though it goes up and down from day to day.

A Cautionary Tale

My husband and I were talking at dinner the other night about how long it takes investments to increase in value and how quickly a market downturn can take all that increase away in a blink of an eye. Well, weight loss and gain behaves in the exact opposite way, as I can attest to. [...]

Zumba Makes You Feel Better than a Cookie Does

I’m hoping that last week’s post about my struggles with motivation, and the responses to it, are the start of a turn around in my health and fitness efforts.  I have tried to do better this week.  It wasn’t always pretty.  I skipped Weight Watchers because I just could not face a bad weigh in.  [...]

Progress Report

By Nancy Northcott Well, here we are two months into my efforts to whittle down my weight.  I have to admit those efforts haven’t been as zealous as they need to be.  I’ve modified my eating habits but haven’t managed to get the exercise portion of the program going.  Even so, I’ve lost 1.8 pounds. [...]

Target February

Some of you might have noticed that I flat out forgot to do my regular post here last Tuesday. That’s just one of the side effects of my crazy January full of pressing deadlines. The other — I’ve done abysmally on eating and exercise this month. I’ve made some good food choices and gotten a [...]

Motivation?

I can’t seem to find my motivation.  I know what I should be doing to pursue my health and fitness goals, but I just can’t seem to do them.  To make things worse, baked goods (half the time baked by me!) and other not-wise-food choices keep calling my name, and I answer their cry.  I [...]

An Abundance of Information

It’s that time again, a new year, a new resolve to get fit, be healthy and make it all work this time!!  One of the great things about the seeming world-wide focus right now on weight loss is that great tips and hints and articles on the topic are abundant.  Eating plans, healthier foods and [...]

Jumpstart Workout Challenge

I’m so excited to welcome 2012 and start a new year.  In part, because I love the concept of a clean slate that the new year embodies.  But also because, well, to put it bluntly, 2011 sucked.  Every year brings challenges.  That’s the nature of life. But last year the challenges were delivered by a [...]

Start by Doing Just One Thing

As I write this, I am grooving to Christmas Carols and still feeling the happy glow from my local RWA chapter’s holiday party.  I have several more holiday season events to look forward to and wonderful friends and family to visit and celebrate with this month.  Add the memories of the beautiful and festive Christmas [...]

Healthful Holiday Cheer

Over the past week or so, there have been several chilly to cold, rainy, grey, dismal days. That plus stress has had me a bit down. But yesterday I found a way to perk myself up — decorating the Christmas tree while listening to my Christmas music CDs. As I listened to Bing Crosby sing [...]
