Target February

Some of you might have noticed that I flat out forgot to do my regular post here last Tuesday. That’s just one of the side effects of my crazy January full of pressing deadlines. The other — I’ve done abysmally on eating and exercise this month. I’ve made some good food choices and gotten a tad of exercise here and there, but overall it’s been atrocious. I’ve been working tons on revisions and then writing 25 pages a day to finish two books. My deadline is Feb. 1, and beginning Feb. 2 I’m totally taking a week off. I plan to go get a haircut and a massage, go to the movie theater to see Underworld Awakening and One For the Money. I’m going to read a ton of books that aren’t mine.

But Feb. 1 is also the day I promised myself I’d get back on track with my journey toward a healthier me. I’ll go back to counting calories and keeping the crappy food out of my mouth. I’ll start back to my 2 hours of exercise a day. And by the end of the month, I want to have met the milestone of 20 pounds lost overall.

I think February is actually a good month to start new fitness goals. Everyone and their dog starts Jan. 1, and the truth is that a lot of them have gone by the wayside by Feb. 1. But maybe if we choose an atypical start date, we’ll have more success. What do you think?

  1. Two hours of exercise a day? Oh my.
    I like the February-start logic.

    • Yeah, this is what I was doing before along with counting calories to lose weight. I break it up into chunks and vary what I do. I might walk 30 minutes on the treadmill while reading, 20 minutes of dance aerobics in between writing sessions, an hour of yard work, etc. If I scatter it in chunks throughout the day, it’s not that bad.

LOL I had the same reaction as Molly – 2 hours of exercise a day! I’m going to be looking at Elise’s suggestion from yesterday and just get back to action with a small steps goal!

I also like your thoughts on a Feb challenge – it sounds like may of us need a little boost. I’d like to get back to brisk walking every day, and maybe even by the end of the month, some light jogging for a few minutes.

I’m struggling with adding exercise to my regimen. And also with a deadline of Feb 6.

So I’m up for a Feb challenge!

  4. I think it’s a great idea. I remember when my Januaries were so busy at work. You suggested that I treat 2/1 as my personal new year’s day, and that was really effective.

    • I just think that Jan. 1 has become difficult because some of us are behind on things because of the holidays and it takes January to catch up. Feb. 1 is always a big day for me too because January is my least favorite month, and Feb. 1 just feels like a big turning point, that we’re an entire month closer to spring.
