The High of Big Accomplishments

Yesterday, I had my best writing day ever. 33 pages! It’s amazing what impending deadlines will do for productivity. And it’s just as amazing the high you get from big accomplishments. Now we often talk here about baby steps and not being too hard on ourselves while also not making excuses either. But sometimes, it is really awesome to push ourselves beyond where we’ve gone before.

That said, I’m not advocating for exercising or restricting our diets to the point where it’s harmful. But instead of 15 minutes of exercise, why not push for 30. If 30 is your normal, can you bump it up to 45? If your normal page output is 5 pages a day, consider that pushing for 10 will net you an extra 35 pages per week. At 10 pages a day, you could write a draft of a 300-page book in a month. Even if you take the weekends off to spend time with family, to relax or refill the creative well, you could still write a first draft in 6-8 weeks depending on how long the book is.

What is one way you could push yourself to accomplish more this week? Me, I’m going to try to stick with writing 25-30 pages a day all week. If I can do that, I’ll be finished with this draft by the weekend.

It’s the beginning of the year, and many of us are rededicating ourselves to our health and fitness journeys. One way to stay motivated is to watch the journeys taken by others on The Biggest Loser. A new season starts tonight, and I’ll be back to doing the recaps on Wednesdays beginning tomorrow.

  1. Congratulations, Trish! Big accomplishments are thrilling.

I’m trying to get back into a really good health and fitness groove this week – track/keep a food diary honestly and work out. I’m going to WW tonight, and I actually think I’ll weigh less than I did at my last weigh in 2 weeks ago.

I have a deadline, too, and must step up my writing. I’m hoping to be more productive. I’d LOVE to reach that 33 page a day output!!!! I’ll be happy with 10.

    Wow on the 33pp Trish – that’s super-awesome!

My personal deadline is the end of Jan for this book – it’ll be a major slog to get it done by then, but I’m pulling out all the stops. For me, it’s more about what I’m not going to do. If I can get the time to write and can get it consistently, my production will increase. So I’m focusing on cutting out all distractions on my time!

I’m also going to get back on track with working out – starting with yoga, to see if that helps my back. And some light elliptical work too.

    Yay Trish!

I’m not a baby stepper. I like to see results and very rarely has a succession of little steps given me tangible evidence of progress.

Pushing myself is the ONLY thing that works, and I enjoy pushing myself so it works in the end. :-) But everyone’s different.

I had 2700 words today – felt SO good after the holiday break!

    • It was nice to get back in a normal routine, wasn’t it? Hubby was home for two weeks, and my schedule got all wonky with that and travel to visit family, more family visiting us, etc.
