We Shook on It

This Sunday the fabulous fiance and I were having another conversation about how we should eat better, exercise more, etc.  We’ve both had some accomplishments with the latter this summer, but it is so easy to fall off the wagon especially when you throw in some work travel.

So, in the midst of the chat, he said something along the lines of enough.  Tomorrow I’m going to get up and run.  You’re going to work out.  Let’s shake on it.  He held out his hand to mine.

I wasn’t so keen to shake hands on it because that would make doing it more important, but I did.  And, he did run this morning.  And, I did go for a 40 minute walk during my lunch break. It did work.

So here’s to shaking on it for tomorrow.  🙂

My First Week Back at the Gym after a Long Break

During the heart of my last successful attempt to lose weight, I worked out regularly.  I made it to the gym 4-5 times a week and incorporated activity into my daily life.  One of the reasons I gained back some of that weight was I stopped exercising a lot.  During the courtship with my fabulous […]

The Magic of Fit Bit

Just last week my sister set up my Fit Bit when she came down to visit me for Easter.  This is the same fit bit she had given me for Christmas, but I never got around to even opening the package.  Yet, just a week later, I am ready to sing its praises to high […]

Fit Bits Part 2

My sister came down to visit me this weekend so that we could spend Easter together.  Earlier this week my fabulous guy pointed to the unopened fit bit package on my desk and said that I better set that up or hide that before she arrives.  She had given me a fit bit as an […]

Gettin’ Motivated and Gettin’ Cooking

Last Thursday one of my colleagues came into my office to tell me about this cool new app she had on her phone – My Fitness Pal.  That got us stated on one of those conversations about how hard it is to get motivated to do the work we know we need to do to […]

Coming Back

So, I just took an unplanned, month plus sabbatical from the Healthy Writer blog.  It’s been so long I can’t quite remember why I skipped my last post in January.  I think it was because I wasn’t feeling particularly healthy or writerly at the time and just couldn’t force myself to post something.  I may […]

Is It as Exciting the Second Time Around?

The Washington, DC, area is abuzz about the second inauguration of President Barack Obama, but it is nowhere near the level of excitement as four years ago.  There are many stories out there about why that is, and this is not a political blog.  These stories do make me wonder if anything is as exciting […]

Fitbits

I recently was given a fitbit ultra as a gift and need to motivate to set it up.  A fibit is a wireless activity and sleep tracker.  According to the packaging it is in, you can rack your steps & distance, calories burned, stairs climbed, and sleep quality.  You can upload this information to your […]

Inspiration from Others Accomplishing their Goals

Saturday night the fabulous boyfriend and I went to a fun party that was half cocktail party/half piano concert.  A friend of ours had vowed on her last birthday that she would celebrate this particular year in her life by performing several classical pieces in front of her friends before her next birthday.  And, she […]
